Cartoon Saturday

March marches on ...

North Korea is threatening nuclear war against the United States over the latest round of sanctions against the Hermit Kingdom; a huge winter storm nicknamed "The Snowquester" that threatened to bury the nation's capitol in snow ... didn't; Kentucky senator Rand Paul talked for more than 13 hours on the Senate floor in order to get lots of press attention filibuster the nomination of John Brennan to be CIA director and get a definitive promise that President Obama wouldn't use drones to kill any American citizen on US soil; Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez died of cancer, and his embalmed body will be displayed in a glass coffin forever, like such heroic figures as Vladimir Lenin, Ho Chi-Minh, and Kim Jong-Il; and the Transportation Safety Administration has announced it will relax rules which restrict the carrying of knives and other potential weapons on board aircraft.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the cartoons ... you know you need them after a week like this one.

Newly relaxed TSA regulations on the carrying of dangerous items on aircraft are bad enough ... but when coupled with layoffs of security screeners as a result of government budget cutbacks ...

And ...

The cardinals of the Roman Catholic church will start their conclave to select the next pope on Tuesday. They will meet, as tradition dictates, in the Sistine Chapel*, which will have special arrangements to facilitate the meetings ...

The History Channel this week debuted a major mini-series based on the Bible. There was probably some discussion of how to interpret some major biblical stories for the small screen ...

And ...

We always need a good pun cartoon each week ...

I'm ready to file this complaint with my local PD most days ...

As the housing market looks to be slowly recovering, how about a pair of topical cartoons ...

And ...

And finally, it looks as if there will never be a rational discussion of measures to limit gun violence in this country, so we'll just have to take what we can get ...

And that's the way things are for this first full week of March, 2013. Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead an hour before you go to bed tonight ... Daylight Savings Time starts at 2AM tomorrow morning, and you don't want to have to get up in the middle of the night to change your timepieces.

Thanks to everyone who left congratulatory messages yesterday on the occasion of my seventh blogoversary. It's nice to have so many friends, real and virtual, and to have had the opportunity to meet some of you and exchange letters with others. I hope to keep you entertained and coming back for a long time.

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.

* You can read the amazing story of the Sistine Chapel in the wonderful book by Ross King, Michaelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling.

I really laughed at the mouse holes and the self-serve security check. Missed the one abourt the apples, though. Great cartoons.

So that's what that long pole is priests carries around. It's a long pen.

It makes perfect sense - the restroom for the Sistene Chapel would have graffiti on the ceiling!

Great ones!
