Cartoon Saturday

As if things in Japan couldn't get any worse in the wake of yesterday's enormous earthquake and tsunami, there are reports of fire and explosion at a nuclear power plant; Congressional hearings on the radicalization of American Muslims are generating the predictable lack of understanding and rational thought on all sides; wildfires in Colorado and Oklahoma have led to the evacuation of hundreds of people; forces loyal to Libyan supreme wacko Moammar G... K... Q... never mind ... are pounding rebel-held positions as calls for the international community to do something! increase; and actress/role model Lindsey Lohan has two weeks to decide whether to go to jail or roll the judicial dice and go to trial over the theft of a necklace.

It's too early in the day to start drinking, so you may as well just go ahead and enjoy Cartoon Saturday.

I've always thought there wasn't much of any fashion style that looks quite as stupid as dreadlocks, but this is one of the few cartoons I've seen on the subject ...

This topic is so obvious, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone take off on it before now ...

As Congressional Republicans continue their divinely-inspired crusade to slash government spending and get rid of all those onerous regulations that protect us from things like clean air and water and financial abuses, this is probably the next step in government oversight ...

If you get sick in modern America and have no health insurance, sometimes this is the best you can hope for ...

Did you ever wonder about those people who call themselves psychics? I thought not. But someone else has ...

Actually, two someone-elses have ...

I just love language jokes. This one may not make much sense to my overseas readers not used to American English dialects, but trust me ... it's funny ...

Another fairly obvious cartoon topic that I haven't seen anyone take off on before now ...

Religious belief or conspiracy theory? You decide ...

And finally, I just finished reading a great biography of famous Egyptian queen Cleopatra, which led me to dig this cartoon out of the archives ...

This is going to be a busy weekend, with a visit to the local grandchildren this morning, dinner with some old friends tonight, and attendance at a dance showcase tomorrow at which I'll be doing the honors as the emcee. Emcee'ing a dance show is better than dancing in it, because you don't have to remember all those pesky steps ... you can always fall back on a script.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed tonight ... Daylight Savings Time begins at 2AM tomorrow morning, unless the Republicans figure out a way to deregulate it.

Have a good day. More thoughts tomorrow.
